Job Summary
Job Title: Economic Empowerment Advocate (Non-Exempt)
Location: Shelter and Outreach
Position reports to: Outreach Program Manager
Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Previous experience working with individuals in a crisis setting or social services preferred. Professional training may be substituted for experience. Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
Principal Job Duties
- Developing and implementing an economic empowerment program to include components such as:
- Economic Empowerment curricula adaptation and delivery
- Financial literacy
- Economic advocacy
- Earned Income Tax Credits awareness
- Microloans, micro enterprises, or matched savings/Individual Developmental accounts programs
- Assisting survivors of domestic violence with identifying and securing affordable housing.
- Assisting survivors of domestic violence with identifying and attaining their employment goals.
- Collaborating with community agencies including, but not limited to: local literacy programs, career centers, Job Links, Dress for Success programs and local libraries.
- Conducting extensive outreach in the community so that in addition to survivors gaining economic empowerment services via center services they are already receiving, survivors will be connected with local literacy programs, GED programs, English as a Second Language programs and other identified referral sources.
- Participating in DCF Domestic Violence Program-led program evaluation of the project.
- Participating in DCF Domestic Violence Program sponsored events, trainings, technical assistance, learning exchanges, conference calls and webinars.
Secondary Job Duties
- Conduct interviews and crisis intervention with victims of domestic violence crimes in order to determine needs and explore options.
- Assess lethality and conduct safety planning with victims of crime on a case-by-case basis.
- Assist victim with a case plan (give information and referrals, transport to appointments).
- Complete victim compensation forms and legal referrals as needed and provide other information as needed.
- Maintain contact with other advocates regarding victims’ case plans.
- Maintain counseling forms and statistics on all victims of crime in accurate, complete files.
- Complete monthly statistical forms.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor or CEO.

- Ability to see, sit, hear, talk, walk, stand and read.
- Ability to use arms, hands and fingers (mopping, sweeping, computer use, writing etc.)
- Ability to reach, stock, climb (step stool or ladder), bend, balance, crouch, kneel and crawl.
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently (donations, food, babies etc.).
Environmental Conditions which may be experienced are:
- Loud noise, the use of toxic or caustic chemicals (ammonia, bleach etc.), and extreme weather conditions.
